MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Witham on Sat 07 Jun 2014 at 1.00p.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall by 7 wickets

Match report Mildenhalls hopes of a return to winning ways were held up by the morning thunderstorms and play against Witham got underway 30 minutes late in a match reduced to 45 overs per side. Humid weather and moisture in the ground favoured the bowlers and so Mildenhall were quite happy to bowl first. James Holmes racing in from the River lark end relishing the conditions and he was able to get sideways movement off the pitch. He struck early when he bowled James Suett for 9 and next over he hit the stumps again sending Leroy Facey back without scoring. At the other end Duncan Fraser was being punished for anything wide but struck back when he had Duncan Jenkinson (6) caught at mid-wicket by Ben Shepperson. Fraser was immediately in the game again when Jake Wakelin mistimed a hook off James Holmes and Fraser took the catch at fine leg leaving the visitors on 37 for 4. Richard Green and Cody Macdonald took the score to 50 only for Holmes to strike again when he bowled McDonald for 4. Holmes then continued his fine afternoon when Green (9) drove hard to extra cover where Kobus Scholtz held onto a splendid diving catch. This gave Holmes his fifth wicket. He was still not done however and in the last of his 15 overs he hit the stumps for the 4th time when he bowled Greg Taylor for 22. Witham’s problems were then compounded when Paul Bellehewe was run out by Scholtz without scoring. Witham were now 78 for 8. Some resistance finally game as Jack Sambrook and D Ward raised the 100. Sambrook eventually fell bowled by Scholtz for a well made 35, and Scholtz wrapped things up 6 runs later when he had Matt McKendry caught in the deep by Fraser for 1 and Witham were all out for 130. James Holmes finished with an impressive 6 for 13 off 15 overs.
Mildenhall gave Witham an early point when poor calling saw both Adam Trett (2) and Ben Shepperson (4) both run out and the home side on 11 for 2. The inform Scholtz joined Bester and the pair steadied the ship taking advantage of some tardy fielding with a couple of catches going begging. Bester and Scholtz added 81 before Bester (35) holed out to McDonald off G Taylor. Ryan Clark joined Scholtz and with Scholtz now completely dominant the pair saw Mildenhall home to a 7 wicket win. Clark was unbeaten on 10 and Scholtz was not out 77.Mildenhall had gained a much needed 20 points.
