MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Worlington on Sat 12 Jul 2014 at 1.00p.m.
Match was Abandoned with scores level
Match report
With the sun coming out just as the match got under way, Mildenhall took to field with near neighbours Worlington batting first. Mildenhall struck an early blow when Jack Loveday move to bowl around the wicket and immediately dismissed Richard Ford (14) with a “full bunger”. Sadly there was then a long delay when the home teams other opening bowler James Holmes damaged a ligament while bowling and could not be moved until an ambulance arrived. Play was held up for around two hours. When play finally got underway again Chris Baugh and Jimmy Watson moved the score along steadily and had raised the hundred by 29 overs. Having reached a half century Chris Baugh (56) was shortly dismissed when Joe Reed hung on to a caught and bowled chance. Graham Ford joined Watson however they failed to increase the run rate against the slow bowling of Joe Reed and Kobus Scholtz. Watson (57)finally lost patience going down the wicket to Reed and being stumped by Ryan Clark with the score on 149. Matt Peachy and Ford did begin to inject some pace into the run rate going along at six an over until Peachey (16) fell caught by Alex Reynolds and gave Reed his third wicket. Worlington then lost Adam Gallop (4), bowled by Scholtz before Darren Hayward joined Ford to continue the innings with some forceful batting. The pair saw up the 200 and had progressed the total to 221 by the last over. Here Mildenhall struck back with Scholtz claiming three wickets including Ford (40), caught in the deep by Duncan Fraser and bowling Hayward (24). His 3rd wicket being Twiddy (2) well held again in the deep this time by Jack Beaumont. Mildenhall were able to claim two more bowling points and the visitors closed on 224 for 8. Scholtz finished with 4 for 64 and Reed 3 for 75
Mildenhall had made 44 which was the best opening score of the season before Alex Reynolds (21) was bizarrely run out when the bowler Nathan Twiddy touched a straight drive by Reed. Worlington soon had a further success when Kobus Scholtz was bowled by Sean Cooper for a duck. Ben Shepperson (who had taken over the captains duties after the departure of Holmes) joined Reed and they pushed the score along nicely at four an over. Mildenhall raised the 100 and Reed moved to a half century before Woollard replaced Twiddy and captured the wicket of Reed (58) with a fine caught and bowled. In form Adam Trett on this occasion failed to impress and was soon bowled by Cooper for 4. The game had tilted back towards Worlington with Mildenhall now on 118 for 4. However Shepperson and Jack Beaumont took charge of the situation adding 82 in the next 10 overs. By now the light was fading, although not enough for Shepperson (87) to be caught in the deep. Beaumont and Steve Lankester (12*) made a frantic effort to chase down the runs but after Beaumont (32) departure and thunder and lightning approaching the players on the field consulted and abandoned the match with the scores level.
