MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 7 wickets

Match report Mildenhall 1st X1 were looking for revenge at home against Maldon having lost the earlier corresponding fixture away at Maldon. The visitors batted first and were soon in trouble, with just 8 on the board Jamie Glenn (3) drove Jack Beaumont straight to point where Jack Bowman took the catch. In the next over Chris Harris (9) having hit Duncan Fraser for 4 edged the next ball behind where Karl Holmes dived low to his right to take a superb catch. Tom Allen quickly replaced Beaumont and in his 3rd over he had Jimmy Ainscough (2) repeating Glenn’s dismissal as the ball flew to point where Bowman hung on to his second catch. Things then got worse for Maldon when Allen struck again. This time it was Matt Coppen (4) edging a catch to Adam Trett in the slips and the visitors were 31 for 4. Mildenhalls Captain Ben Shepperson kept a steady rotation of his bowlers and brought back Beaumont who completed 3 maiden overs before bowling Peter Wargent for 17. Maldon continued to struggle and had 52 on board when Kobus Scholtz trapped M Coker (5) edging a catch to keeper Holmes who was standing up. Scholtz claimed a 7th wicket for Mildenhall when he bowled Reece Bawden for 18. Ross Walpole and Toby Pugh rallied Maldon for a time but their 31 run partnership was broken when Shepperson swooped and his sharp throw saw Walpole run out for 13. Pugh(16) soon followed offering a simple caught and bowled chance to Shepperson and Allen wrapped things up when he had Jack Riley (4) skying a catch to Fraser leaving Maldon bowled out for 102. Allen finished with 3 for 15, Beaumont 2 for 23 and Scholtz 2 for 27.
Mildenhall did not win unscathed. Alex Reynolds (3) edged Glenn to slip and next ball saw Scholtz make a rare error, shouldering arms he was out for a golden duck. Shepperson joined Tom Westley and he struck 5 boundaries in an innings of 24 before mistiming a drive from Pugh and offering a simple catch to Riley at mid-off. Meanwhile Westley was showing his class with a near faultless performance. He made 50 in 63 balls. He was joined at the crease by Adam Trett who became a virtual spectator as the pair added the final 43 runs required to win the match. Tretts contribution was 4 singles. Westley finished unbeaten on 70 and Mildenhall had won by 7 wickets.
