MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Coggeshall on Sat 13 Sep 2014 at 12.00noon
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost Mildenhall lost by 6 wickets
Match report
The final Saturday of the Two Counties League matches saw Coggeshall arriving at Mildenhall needing a big points win to overtake Frinton and win the title. Mildenhall 1st X1 batted first and Tom Westley and Alex Reynolds compiled a half century partnership before Westley swept and was adjudged lbw for 34. Kobus Scholtz joined Reynolds who together looked solid until an unfortunate slip resulted in Reynolds being run out for 29. Captain Ben Shepperson quickly got into his stride and he and Scholtz both stroked the ball to all corners of the park as they added 79. Shepperson fell on 48 when he was caught and bowled by R Jagger with the score on 170. Andy Squire entered and continued his form from last week as he and Scholtz added 50 in 6 overs. Squire fell caught by Jimmy Rees off Rob Jagger for 29 and a tired looking Scholtz was unable to post a century and was undefeated on 91 as the home team closed on 240 for 4. South African Scholtz finished the season with 1920 aggregate runs for the club and claimed a record that had stood for over 20 years.
Coggeshall had looked a little flat in the field probably knowing that with only 2 bowling points the league title was slipping away, however their batting performance belied their disappointment. Their Kiwi batsman Dan Cleaver held things together with a well made 111 and with good support form Byron Overstone 33, Ollie Blackwell 26 and a hard hitting 52 by Willie Blackwell the visitors got home by 6 wickets with an over to spare. The win however left Coggeshall as runner up to Frinton.
