MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 3rd XI - Sat v Witham 2nd X1 on Sat 06 Sep 2014 at 12.30 p.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall 3rd X1 win by 6 wickets
Match report
Attention then turned to the second square where Mildenhall 3rd X1 were playing Witham 2nd X1 and requiring 6 points to take the two counties division 5 title. Things didn’t start too well for Mildenhall as the visitors batted first and reached 50 without loss. Alastair Kingdon got the first wicket when Ollie Cooke (22) lobbed a ball that James Taylor ran forward and hung onto. It was the introduction of Lee Chipchase that saw the home teams fortune change. He had Sam Tennant and Charles Spence dismissed cheaply and struck the stumps for the third tome when he bowled danger man J Chick who had made 31. Andrew Zajak bowled Dave Beatty for a duck and then assisted Jon Allen holding onto a catch by opener Duncan Jenkinson (66). Chipchase secured a fifth point for Mildenhall when he wrapped the Witham inning up by having Stuart Facey (4) caught by Jack Horn. Witham had gone from a strong position of 113 for 3 off 30 overs to all out 162 in the 45th. For Mildenhall Chipchase finished with 5 for 40. So Mildenhall required just one batting point to win the title. They lost opener Tom Heywood early and Mick Saunders (22) was caught with the score on 38. James Taylor and Kevin Pearson progressed slowly until with the score on 62 Pearson was bowled by L Hart. By now all eyes were on this match as Captain Neil Clark and the team’s leading run scorer Taylor edged the team to the 100 land mark. Finally in the 34th over Clark struck a boundary that gave the team the point needed. With the title secured Taylor and Clark accelerated until Clark (32) finally fell to a low catch taken by Hart off Paul Bellehewe. Zajak joined Taylor and they worked the ball around to make sure of victory in the last over. Zajak was unbeaten on 10 while Taylor top scorer with a stylish 89 not out. Two title on one ground in one day. The celebrations began.
