MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall 1st X1 won by 5 wickets
Match report
Mildenhall 1st X1 kept up their challenge for honours this season with a five wicket win at Frinton. The home team lost the early wicket of Joe Fowler when he was caught behind by Luke Youngs off Tom Allen. Shane Moseley and Tony Stubbs then added 62 before Greg Palmer had Moseley (44) caught by Ben Shepperson. However it was Joe Reed who instrumental in turning the tide for Mildenhall taking the next three top order batsmen for 43 runs. Tom Allen came back on to mop up and finished with an impressive 5 for 22 off 10 overs as Frinton were bowled out for 169. Once again the fielders had backed up the bowlers, hanging on to eight catches.
Mildenhall got off to a poor start with both openers Reed and Youngs, back in the pavilion with just 12 on the board. Shepperson joined Taylor and they added 61 before the more flamboyant Shepperson was bowled by Ian Morton for 38. Adam Trett suffered the same fate without troubling the scorers. Taylor held firm and batted responsibly helped now by Luke Turner. The pair took the score passed 100 and Turner finally fell for 17 with the score on 120. Taylor was now joined by young Matt Allen who was not at all fazed by the task. He struck four boundaries in reaching 23*, while Taylor remained unbeaten on 70 as they added the final 46 runs that handed the match to Mildenhall together with twenty valuable points. The win moved Mildenhall into second place in Division One of the Two Counties League.
