Match report Mildenhall 1st X1 made their longest journey of the season when they travelled to Maldon where the home team batted first. Tom Allen had an early success when he had Ian Elliott (2) caught behind by wicketkeeper Eddie Finnis. Maldon kept the scoring rate up to a run a ball and had 50 on the board in the 9th over. Chris Harris dominated a partnership with Robb MacMillan and reached his half century in the 16th over. Skipper Ben Shepperson soon abandoned his quick bowling attack and switched to a gentler pace. Joe Reed got the break through when he bowled Harris (58) after the second wicket had added 74. Macmillan then took up the senior batting partner role and together with Freddie Clark raised the score to 149, with Macmillan reaching his 50. Shortly after Clark (30) was bowled by Jack Bowman and Maldon suffered a middle order collapse as 5 wickets fell for 13 runs. Bowman picked up two more and Shepperson had Lee Monk well caught by Jon Steel. The prize wicket of Macmillan (caught and bowled 60) fell to the golden arm of Steve Lankester leaving Maldon on 162 for 7. Maldon’s lower order held firm with Gary Bannister adding 27 before being caught by Lankester off Steel. Richard Bowyer remained 19* not out as Maldon closed on 209 for 9.
In reply Mildenhall reached 55 before Joe Reed (14) was bowled by Clark. His opening partner Peter Worthington (71) together with Ben Shepperson (77) put the visitors in a strong position before both fell to lbw decisions. Mildenhall lost no further wickets as Lankester blasted 38 off 25 balls and Tom Allen remained not out 9 in a 7 wicket win completed with 7 overs to spare.
