Sudbury v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 05 Sep 2015 at 12.00 noon
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost Mildenhall 1st X1 lost by 8 wickets
Match report
Mildenhall 1st X1 travelled to league leaders Sudbury hoping to spoil their party as a win for the home team would secure them the Two Division One Champions. Mildenhall were asked to bat first and Joe Reed immediately showed his intent taking two boundaries off Billy Moulton Day’s first over. Sudbury were then given a big boost in the second over when Tom Westley was adjudged lbw to Jonny Gallager for 0. Steve Taylor joined Reed and the pair eased the score into the forties. Taylor was then savage on first change bowler Akeal Hosein hitting him for two big sixes in his first over. Sudbury’s second bowling change proved more fruitful. Tom Huggins second ball completely deceived Taylor and he was bowled for 27.Ben Shepperson (9) struck one boundary before he too was bamboozled by Huggins and was stumped by Adam Mansfield. Soon after a poor call resulted in Luke Turner being run out for 2 and leaving Mildenhall on 77 for 4. Tom Allen went in at number six. Reed then took control as he departed the ball to all parts of the Sudbury ground. He dominated a century partnership with Allen contributing 71 of the runs. However in the 44th over and just one run after the century partnership, Reed drove Hosein to long off but failed to find the boundary and Huggins took the catch. Reed was out for a valiant 104 and his century, although not chanceless, had included 11 fours and 4 sixes. Reed’s dismissal signalled a disastrous time for Mildenhall as a collection of some poor shot selection and two more calamitous run outs saw them lose 6 wickets for just 8 runs. Mildenhall gifted Sudbury maximum batting points as they were dismissed for 186. They had also handed Sudbury an extra over. For Sudbury Hosein finished with 4 for 51.
Sudbury began well adding 30 in 7 overs before Taylor, who had replaced Wesley at the pavilion end struck twice. He induced an offside edge from Huggins (10) that sailed into Shepperson’s hands at slip. Next ball up saw Mansfield (0) get an inside edge and was bowled. This brought Hosein and Nathan Poole together. Hosein had a let off when a sharp edge was parried in the slips but after that the pair completely dominated proceedings. Shepperson rotated his eight bowlers frantically trying to break the partnership, all to no avail. Poole scored a well-made 82* and the slightly more impressive Hosein remained unbeaten on 76. Their partnership of 157 saw Sudbury home by 8 wickets and worthy winners of this seasons Championship. Mildenhall will finish in third place and will be the top Suffolk club. They finish their season next week with a game against the “Auld Enemy”, near neighbours Worlington. The game has the added interest of Worlington trying to ensure their survival in the top flight.
