Match report Mildenhall 1st X1 travelled to newly promoted Copford hoping to bounce back from their defeat last Saturday against league leaders Wivenhoe. Mildenhall batted first and had 43 on the board in just 6 overs. Joe Reed (20) was then out caught by T Sinclair off Russell Measor. This brought together Mildenhall’s two Australians Steve Taylor and Peter Worthington. Together they took command an added 150 runs, going along at 5 an over. Taylor finally fell for 79 when he was caught by Keiran Savill off Ben Rawson. Worthington batted on to reach a century in the 33rd over, by which time Mildenhall had passed 200. Captain Ben Shepperson was dismissed for just 2 and Worthington was trapped lbw soon after for 112. His innings contained 14 fours and 2 sixes. Mildenhall continued to pile on the runs with Matt Allen making 27 and Hamzah Ikram adding 29. However it was in form Adam Trett (54*) who gave the away side the impetus to break a six year record and post a final score of 349 for 9.
If Mildenhall had any thoughts that their big total would intimidate Copford they were soon dispelled. T Sinclair made 59 before falling lbw to Steve Taylor. Tim Richards hit 50 in boundaries before getting out, caught Kyle Morrison off Shepperson for 68. However having prized out 7 batsmen Mildenhall were unable to polish off the opposition. Keith Sargeant and Russell Measor dug in for a defiant 40 run partnership that not only deprived Mildenhall of 2 points but in reaching 211 for 7 secured maximum batting points for their team. Steve Taylor took 3 for 23 and Ben Shepperson 2 for 32. Mildenhalls win leaves them in second place in the league.
