MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 107 runs

Match report Mildenhall 1st X1 entertained Halstead at home on Saturday with Mildenhall keen to avenge the defeat they received in a high scoring encounter at Halstead last season. Mildenhall won the toss and in form batsmen Steve Taylor and Joe Reed dominated the early proceedings. They took 70 off the first 10 overs and completed a century partnership in the 15th over. Taylor finally fell for 60 when he was bowled by D Elsbury with 123 on the board. Peter Worthington joined Reed and they added a further 52 before Reed (75) was out to a great catch in the deep by Chris Rayner off bowler Ollie Grayson. Captain Ben Shepperson (8) continued to struggle with his league batting form and gave an easy caught and bowled chance to Chris Roper. Worthington however took control and together with Luke Youngs another 53 runs were added. Youngs (20) fell when he drove Josh Wells upishly to cover where Grayson hung on to the catch. Mildenhall were unable to make the most of the late overs as 5 wickets fell for the addition of 15 runs and Worthington was left to watch from the other end. Mildenhalls inning closed after 45 overs with Worthington unbeaten with 82 runs and the team finishing on 263 for 8. For Halstead Chris Roper was the pick with 3 for 39.
Steve Taylor set Mildenhall on their way when he knocked over Goushi Raviendran stumps with the first ball of the innings. Taylor then had Chris Rayner (0) caught in a well taken catch by Luke Youngs. Grayson and Wells attempted a comeback, however with 45 on the board Grayson (11) hit Taylor straight to Hamzah Akram. Mildenhall then had further success when first change bowler Tom Allen cartwheeled the stumps of danger man Wells (40). Halstead were soon 65 for 5 when Larvet Marunda (1) gave Allen his second wicket, as Akram held on to his second catch of the innings. Mark Johnson and Harry Veal showed some determination adding 49. Johnson (27) finally drove Ikram sideway to Matt Allen who took an easy catch. Veal tried valiantly to keep things going and secured a further point for his team as they passed 150. Mildenhall however wrapped up the game as Ikram got a second wicket and Reed picked up a brace. Halstead were bowled out for 154 and Veal remained not out 52. Mildenhall had secured 20 points with 10 overs to spare. Birthday boy Taylor finished a fine all-round performance taking 3 for 40.
