MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Burwell on Sat 18 Aug 2018 at 11.00a.m
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 171 runs

Match report Burwell won the toss and put Mildenhall in to bat. If skipper Joe Tetley thought there was something in the wicket he was sadly disappointed as our openers Rashy and Tristan went on to make the highest opening stand for MCC this season eclipsing the 77 by Joe Reed and baker Allen against Burwell earlier this season, with a magnificent stand of 122 . Rashy was first to fall shortly followed by Nick Maiolo with another dodgy LBW. Tristan went on to score 97 when he was undone by Ghelani. Like all good religious cricketers he immediately got down on his knees and, in an easterly direction, thanked big M for allowing him to get 97. Jimmy the Greek followed Nick and scored a rapid 77 off 67 balls ending the innings with Shepp with a excellent score of 279. There then followed a feast of a lunch that only Chippy and his girls could dreamt up, sausage and mash and peas and corn – delicious.
Unlike Mildenhall, Burwell got off to a bad start when Simon Donald was bowled by Rashy first ball. Tom Griffiths was next to go in the seventh over having only faced 7 balls, caught by Ben Curran off Rashy. After another 10 overs wickets started to fall steadily and my fellow scorer had only just mentioned that as long as Andrew Bramley, their best player, was still there they still had a chance, when Murty induced him to lob a catch into the safe hands of Jimmy the Greek. After that it was just a procession of falling wickets and Mildenhall ran out winners by 171 runs.
It would be uncharitable of me not to mention the sterling feats of Tristan Blackledge who scored 97 and took 5 wickets for 24 from 9 overs but the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the lunch. Well done Emma and the girls.
