MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Great Witchingham CC on Sat 01 Jun 2019 at 11.00a.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Weather dry mostly sunny.
The visitors won the toss and surprisingly, or maybe not to those in the know, decided to bat. In his first over Hugo continued his recent run of good form and induced Jack Boyle to snick one to first slip which captain Rashy gratefully accepted. Unfortunately we had to wait some time for the next wicket which came when the score was on 101; Hugo again, this time in his second spell. Having scored 55 James Hale got a fine edge to a ball down the leg side which Ed miraculously got hold of before it hit the ground. This bit of magic was the prelude to a catastrophic loss of 8 wickets for only 51 runs, most of which were scored by Sam Arthurton who finished on 74 not out. Murty finished up with the best figures of 4 for 18 off 11 overs and Sharma also got 4 for 46 off 12 overs, but this would have been much better if it hadn’t been for one silly over which cost most of the runs.
Our innings started off like a carbon copy of our opponents in that we lost our first wicket with only 7 runs on the board and then Great W. had to wait for another 130 runs before claiming their next. This was the wicket of Harrison Clark-Burnham (HCB) who had kept Joe company for well over an hour. He only scored 37 in this time but this was an important innings and added stability to the top order batting. Joe was at his imperious best scoring 82 off 93 balls so not slow by any means but more circumspect with his choice of strokes and gave the impression he was trying to build an innings rather than win the match as quickly as possible. After Joe was out the match was as good as won. A good performance all round and all done and dusted before tea!
And just to add some icing to the cake, Spurs got beat in Madrid! (As in victory so in defeat!)
