MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 4 wickets

Match report Matt comes of age!
SWCC won the toss and opted to bat. They got off to a good start scoring 90 in the first 17 overs without loss or any discernible discomfort except when Matt Allen came on in the 8th over and seemed from the scorebox to be making the ball almost unplayable. His first over was a maiden and in his second had Regis Chakabva, who was our main protagonist in the first game of the season, dropped in the deep which then went for a 4. Shades of déjà vu! Never mind Matt. Your time was to come. Any thoughts of a big total were soon dismissed however as the spin twins entered the fray and wickets fell regularly whilst runs were hard to get, until rain intervened when the visitors were 147 for 6 after 31 overs. Three and a half hours later play resumed, and the umpires decided that SWCC should have another 8 overs making 39 in all and we would get 34 overs to get the runs. We got the 10th wicket (4 to Murtaza and 6 to Ankit) in the final over so no extra overs to play with.
Unfortunately, Joe was still suffering from his neck injury and only managed 1 run before being caught. Enter Josh Frame who right from the start bossed the opponents bowling in a way not seen by a Mildenhall no. 3 for some time. Probably not since Steve Taylor in 2016! This got Tristan going as well and between them they set about the bowling for the next 17 overs. Just as they were approaching a century partnership Tristan was adjudged stumped on 45 and shortly after Josh decided to reverse swing and was clean bowled by Ryan Deamer. Before the applause had died down Ankit was bowled by Deamer and all of a sudden, a crisis was looming with 3 wickets in the space of 5 overs. Capt. Rashy threatened for a few overs with Ben before he fell to Jake Foley. With 11 overs left we needed 57 to win and Ben and Matt set about their task. When Ben was out in the 29th over we only needed 25 to win off 5 overs. In came Jonny who scored a single off his 3rd ball. Matt then went 6,2,1,4,4,0,2,4,1 to wrap up the match in superb fashion. The records will show that he scored 45 runs off 22 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes, with a strike rate 204.5 a performance which surely surpasses his maiden half century a few weeks ago. Well done ‘Baker’.
