Horsford v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 15 Aug 2020 at 11:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Another fairly comfortable victory which makes three on the bounce. Horsford CC won the toss and elected to bat. Rashy takes the cherry and after 2 balls opener Clabburn is back in the pavilion, comprehensively bowled. In Rashy’s next over, he gets Rogers caught behind for 4. Five for 2 in 3 overs is not a good start for Horsford. After 10 overs of good, accurate bowling by both Alex and Rashy, particularly notable for its lack of wides (just one by Alex), Horsford were 40 for 2. The 11th over brought about a change of bowling and Jack Loveday is first up. Coming down the hill Jack was obviously having a bit of trouble with his line as the first 6 balls contained 3 wides. However with the 8th ball of this over, he got Rahul Garg LBW with a corker which from the scorebox looked plum. The umpire agreed and Jack has his first wicket. In the course of the next 6 overs, shared with Tristan, 4 more wickets fell, 2 more to Jack (one of which looked like a brilliant catch by Rashy at slip) and 2 in the same over for Tristan. After 17 overs Horsford were 56 for 7, including 10 wides and at 12.15 an early lunch seemed on the cards. Horsford struggled on with Ryan Findlay threatening to make a big score and he was eventually last out brilliantly caught and bowled by Jake for 62. Other features of the innings; for the first time this season a fielder claimed more catches than Jack behind the stumps ( Rashy with 2), Jake’s 3 for 32 off 8 overs and Jack’s 3 for 12 off 6 overs including all those wides! Horsford were eventually all out for 143 at 1.45pm not quite as early as we first thought.
Mildenhall started comfortably but Dom Palmer seemed to be the recipient of a harsh decision being adjudged caught behind in the 8th over. Tristan quickly followed LBW to Metcalf. Runs appeared difficult to get during the next half a dozen overs or so apart from an almighty 6 flicked off Jake Foley’s bat. About this time Christopher Brown came on to bowl his 10 overs for 27 runs and 1 wicket, that of Jake Foley given out LBW in the 16th over. The next wicket to fall was that of Tom Allen in the 27th over after he and Jack had put on the best partnership of the innings (42) by which time Mildenhall were coasting at 91 for 4. Ollie played-on to the dangerous Findlay in the 33rd over whereupon Rashy and Potticary cleared the deficit in a couple of overs.
Another good victory but we will have to bat better next week at Swardeston. And not so many wides; they get enough runs as it is without us helping them to freebies.
