Burwell & Exning CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 28 Aug 2021 at 11:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 8 wickets

Match report Carnage at Exning as Potts goes to town.
As usual Ollie won the toss and we fielded. Burwell got off to a reasonable start scoring around five runs an over before losing their first wicket leg before to Darren Ironside in the ninth over for 35. The next wicket was not until the 21st over when they were threatening to get away. A brilliant bit of fielding by Luvvers caught non-striker Luke du-Ploy well short of making his ground. Two overs later, Darren induced Ollie Jefferies to chip the ball to Nic Smit for his second wicket. The match then became the Smit and Rash show as they steadily worked their way through the batsmen with Rashy finishing with 3 for 25 off 9.3 and Nic with 4 for 41 off 10. All out for 231, a reasonable score we thought but not insurmountable.
Potts clearly agreed with our assessment of the situation and set about the opponents bowling attack like a man possessed. In 79 minutes and 81 balls (including an outrageous over from the luckless Jefferies which he hit for 24) he pocketed 114 runs before lobbing a catch to Tony de Zorzi as if in compensation for having hit his bowling all over the park. The bowler James Hickman showed his sportsmanship by congratulating Jack on his way off. Jacks century came in 69 balls and I am willing to wager that that is the fastest century made in the EAPL this season. Our President who was at the game was heard to say it was the best century by a Mildenhall man since Steve Taylor’s in 2015 or thereabouts.
All this of course overshadowed Darren Ironside’s contribution to the total and the partnership. He was no slouch either scoring his half century in 55 balls and finished with 71 not out off 83 balls. Nic Smit as well had a say in matters with 37 not out off 31 balls to add to his bowling contribution.
There was an appearance by another Mildenhall batsmen but it was so brief I didn’t catch who it was so we’ll let Tris keep his anonymity.
With only 2 games to go I doubt that this performance will be bettered before the end of the season but who knows! Frinton, not having a very good season and Sudbury with their small ground. Wanna bet onit!
