MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat v Clacton On Sea CC Saturday XI on Sat 25 Jun 2022 at 12:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 4 wickets

Match report Clacton skipper Parkes called correctly and opted to bat first.
Handy was the pick of the Super 2s seam attack putting severe pressure on Clacton’s top order. His figures after the first 10 overs of the innings read a very impressive 5-3-6-4. His victims being Fowler, Williams, O’Brien and Pitts. At the other end Heywood also took the wicket of Parkes.
Mildenhall were much sharper in the field all round this week and really backed the bowling unit up as a team. Bowman at cover point and gully in particular set the tone. Murti’s continued recovery from injury even allowed him to bend down and stop the ball when required..!!
JKM replaced Handy to bowl the 18th over and took a wicket with the last ball of the over leaving Clacton feeling at 61-7.
Murti then came on from the caravan end and mopped up the tail, bowling Kirk, Lee and Spence and finished with figures of 7.5-3-15-3.
For Clacton, Kirk topped scored with 25 and Sheikh hit some very nice shots in his 24.
The Clacton innings closed in the 33rd over with 95 on the board.
For MCC 2s Heywood took 2-36 off 9 overs, Handy 4-21 off 10 and JKM 1-22 off 6.
In reply and with the pitch offering good assistance when bowling in the right areas, Kirk started with an excellent spell and Pitts also found his length and line after a couple of overs and the two started to apply good pressure. Both took 2 wickets in the first 10 overs and MCC 2s were struggling at 31-4.
Opener Palmer stayed put though and with the help of Murti, took the total to within 13 runs of victory.
Handy then came in and hit a 6 and a 4 off successive balls from Sheikh to see the Super 2s home by 4 wickets.
Palmer topped scored with 31 no and Murti scored 25 off 22 balls with 4 boundaries.
For Clacton, Kirk took 3-43, Pitts 2-20 and Sheikh 1-10.

A much needed 20 points for the 2s which takes them up to 8th in the table.
Thank you to Clacton for a good spirited game and to fellow scorer John Stuck for the interesting stories.

We welcome Wivenhoe to Wamil Way next week.

PS - well batted Ash..!!
