Gt. Witchingham won the toss and chose to field. It was a bit of a flat wicket and they probably hoped to restrict Mildenhall to a reasonable score and knock them off at their leisure. Like all best laid plans, this one went awry. Our two openers, Jack and Darren probably led them to believe they had made a good decision, when the score was 20 for 2 off 6 overs. Fortunately, Ollie and Joe had other ideas and put on a stand of 121 before Joe was bowled by Peter Trewick for 52 off 65. Baker joined Ollie and looked like a batsman in form immediately scoring 36 off 33 balls before being stumped by Sam Groves. The score was now a very respectable 223 for 4 off 38 overs with Ollie still going strong. He eventually skied a catch to Trewick in the deep for a magnificent 124 off 123 balls. The score was now 257 with 7.2 overs left. Tim and Tris had a swing and a bit of fun scoring 43 runs off 31 balls before the innings was ended at 310 for 9. Despite the early losses a formidable total or so we thought.
Once again, the batsmen had other ideas and James Spelman and Yaseen Valli, the opposition openers, set about our bowlers. The score was 116 before the first wicket fell, that of James Spellman who looked plumb lbw to a turner from Darren Ironside. Wickets started to fall regularly after that and eventually GW were well short of the target by the 50th over. Of the bowlers, Naveen put in a decent performance with 3 for 24 off 10, as did Tristan with 3 for 52 off 10.
Also noticeable was Mildenhall's fielding which gave away very little unlike the home side who looked very average and conceded too many runs. Well done Mildenhall again. Let’s keep it up.
