MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Bury St Edmunds CC 1st XI on Sat 30 Apr 2022 at 11:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost by 3 wickets
Match report
Any defeat is bad enough but this was a rather comprehensive one to our nearest neighbours. However, to look on the positive side, maybe it is a blessing in disguise.
Having won the toss and opted to field the next good thing to happen was the fall of their first wicket, lb to Tris in the 26th over when the score was 106 for 1. That was the opening batsman and when the no. 2 fell to a caught behind off Rashy in the 30th over, a sense of relief was felt by MCC. Unfortunately, the next wicket to fall was that of Josh Cantrell, caught by the captain off Tristan in the 48 over by which time the batsmen were trying to hit every ball for a six. Two more fell in the same over but it was too little, too late. The main antagonist during all this was the visitor’s overseas player, Jacob Miltz who took the sword to our bowlers and was unlucky not to get his century when he fell for 92 off 81 balls in Tristan’s magic over. One must compliment them on a well constructed innings, knowing when to be conservative and when to bat like luvvers! Having said that they only made 259 runs, a target well within our capabilities.
Or so I thought but it was not to be. There was a nice little cameo rom Potts who scored an effortless 41 off 34 balls, a faultless 34, apart from the last ball, from Baker off 42 balls and 28 for Tim Catley but the rest weren’t worth talking about, so I shan’t.
Next week it is Witham, newly arrived from the Two Counties. Good luck there fellows, I shall watch you from afar hopefully.
