MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 54 runs

Match report In the end we won this match comfortably, but it didn’t look very likely when Horsford went in to bat after we had put on a below par total.
Horsford won the toss and invited us to bat. Poor Darren who can’t buy a run at present was soon out bowled by Callum Metcalf. Ollie joined Potts and together they put on 64 runs before Ollie edged to slip for 24, 81 for 2. Joe made a brief appearance and reverse lobbed his second ball from Christopher Brown into the hands of 1st slip. Suddenly, from 80 for 1 we were 82 for 3. Tristan came in next and then runs were as scarce as hen’s teeth due to some tight bowling by Christopher Brown. Potts and Tris managed only 23 in the next 11 overs before Potts was adjudged lbw Ryan Findlay for 64. He was badly dropped by the wicket keeper when on 33 so we are grateful for the extra 30 odd runs. Runs continued to be a paucity right up to lunch when after 38 overs we had scored only 125 for the loss of 4 wickets. This was due mainly to Christopher Brown who’s figures at the end of his stint were 15 overs, 1 maiden, 1 for 33. Not bad for a youngan!
After lunch runs became a bit easier to score but wickets fell regularly as well, and we finished with 184 in the 59th over. Of this total only 4 players managed double figures, Potts, Tris, Ollie and Tim.
Was this a good enough total we mused in the scorebox. After 2 overs when Chipperfield had scored 20 we thought not! In the 4th over Darren decided to bring Naveen on who was immediately hit for 7 runs, 5 of them by Chipperfield who seemed to be able to hit fours with hardly any effort and was looking very dangerous. In Naveen’s next over 5 dot balls were followed by a mighty swing by Jason Reynolds which he skied over Baker’s head. But Matt running away from the wicket kept his eye on the ball as it came over his head and grabbed it safely to the delight of the whole team. Further delight came in the 9th over when Rashy had Chippy lbw after he had scored 45 runs off 29 balls. You could feel the player’s relief in the scorebox. Now Darren brought himself on and with Naveen, now bowling beautifully, they kept the scoring below par and between them they wrapped up the innings with Naveen getting his second successive "Fifer". Luke also chipped in with a wicket, well caught in the deep by Naveen but the catch of the day was Tom Allen’s, when fielding at short leg. He somehow hung on to a very sharp chance at the second attempt whilst doing a backflip.
So that was that; all out for 130. A convincing victory in the end but a lot more runs from our top order batsmen would make life a lot easier.
