Bury St Edmunds CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 16 Jul 2022 at 11:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 6 wickets

Match report Our Worthy makes Bury pay heavily.
Our new captain won the toss and put them in. After 3 overs they were 6 for 2 having lost their two opening batsmen, Maynard caught behind off Tris, and Bishop, caught by Baker off Rashy. Unfortunately, Miltz, bowled by Naveen for 40, took another 40 overs to fall when the total was 107. The up-side to this was that they had used up a lot of overs scoring around 2.5 runs per over. The rate did increase substantially after this but they eventually used up their 64 overs with a score of 249 for 6. The best bowling was undoubtedly our opening pair of Tris and Rashy who each bowled a dozen or so overs conceding 2 or less an over and both got a wicket.
Tris changed the batting order and Pete opened with Darren who still can’t get himself going. He was starting to look comfortable at the crease having just scored a nice four, then decided to hoik Allchin over his head (his, not the bowler’s) and was comfortably caught on the boundary at deep fine leg in the fifth over! Olly came in next, who is also out of touch at present, and was trying to feel his way in when he suddenly left a ball which removed a stump. Worthy who, up to now, had been busy at the other end stroking and guiding the ball to various parts of the ground, was joined by Potts and the two of them put on a wonderful display of batsmanship which was a delight to watch. Unselfishly, Potts seemed to be content to call a single and let Peter get on with the run scoring and when Potts was eventually out in the 35th over, he had only scored 34 runs but it was a brilliant partnership. Then in came Joe who took over the role of assistant batsman to Pete and guided him along for the next 10 overs before Pete was caught, inevitably on the boundary, for his probably top score for Mildenhall of 139. He hit 18 4s. 3 6s and his 100 came in 98 balls. The score was now 203 for 4 and the fat lady was getting ready to sing. Tris then came in and he and Joe safely guided MCC to a comfortable win in 50 overs.
The kind gentleman standing at second slip must have been rueing his missed opportunity when Pete smashed one through his hands in the first over of our innings!

A great win after last week’s catastrophe, which maintaines our 100% away record this season.

PS. The club President has informed me that, according to his research, Peter Worthington last scored a hundred in the EAPL, 17 years ago in 2005.
