Frinton On Sea CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 27 Aug 2022 at 11.00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 17 runs

Match report A fine and sunny day at the seaside set the scene for an exciting match with Frinton-on-sea. Tristan won the toss and decided to bat. This turned out to be a good decision as we scored 298 for 8 from 50 overs. The innings was not without its drama however. After 3 overs we were 20 without loss and Potts was firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, in the next over he blasted one back to Worthy who couldn’t avoid it and chested it up in the air for the bowler to comfortably catch. It is a shame that Frinton have not yet bought into the streaming mode as from the scorebox we could not see exactly what happened. Caught & bowled does not do it justice. Three overs later, probably still suffering from the pain, Worthy offered a catch up to Bannister who accepted it eagerly. However, cometh the hour, cometh the man and this was Darren’s opportunity to shine and shine he did. He has been showing signs recently of returning to last season’s form and he showed it today in abundance. He came in at the fall of Potts and carried his bat to the end scoring 101 in the process. His first century for Mildenhall this season and well timed! A gritty and much needed innings. With Joe adding 49 and other meaty contributions from Rashy and the skip, plus some appalling fielding and 48 extras, we ended with a decent score which Chris Armstrong proffered there was no chance of Frinton getting anywhere near!
There was one other highlight of this innings, a spectacular one handed catch by Ryan Harrington to dismiss Rashy, in front of the scorebox. Worthy of an IPL appearance!

After lunch, play did not quite match up to Chris’s forecast. Shayne Moseley, a Barbadian test player, ably assisted by an Englishman Ashane Wijesuriya, saw to that. Shayne came in as no.2 batsman and Ashane at no 3 after Luvvers had Amas caught by Darren, and stubbornly batted together until the 41st over when Rashy had Moseley caught by Joe. It was about this time that Frinton realised that they could win this match if they upped their run rate and this they tried to do. However this bought about the steady fall of wickets but they were only 17 runs short at the end of play.

The 48 extras they gifted us, which included 23 wides and 8 no balls, cost them dearly.

It must be said that Luvver's bowling improvement from last season has contributed greatly to our league position this season and today's performance (3 for 37 off 10) was no exception. Well done Jack, keep it up. 3 for 33 off 9 was also notable but we expect that from Rashy!😎

Finally: full marks to Frinton for their excellent lunch and hospitality.

Now for Sawston!
