Frinton On Sea CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 29 Jul 2023 at 11.00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 8 wickets

Match report This wasn’t a difficult match but, at least we got back into winning ways after almost 2 months without a win.
Tris won the toss and put Frinton in. After 1.4 overs the rain started, not heavily, but enough to stop play. There was no respite for an hour so it was decided to take an early lunch and recommence at 1.10. Shortly after the decision was made blue skies appeared from nowhere but we had to wait until the agreed time having made the decision.
Because of the loss of time the match was reduced to 96 overs with Frinton allowed up to 51 and we a up to 45.
After lunch, Blackledge finished his first over and in the next over Jack got his first wicket, Joss Frame, caught by LDP. Two overs later Jack got his second, Ashane Wijesuriya, brilliantly caught by Jonah Handy on the boundary. That was 2 for 7 after 4 overs. In the 12th over, Tris got his first wicket, Barney Morton well caught by Dom Palmer. At this point Frinton were 18 for 3 after 12 overs. In the 18th over, Worthy came on and immediately had Kajeal Tharaneethara stumped. Frinton were now 38 for 4 after 18 overs and the writing looked on the wall. And so it was as they were all out for 111 in the 37th over leaving us to get 112 in 59 overs. Most of the bowling was done by Jack and Tris each of whom got 4 wickets. The other two went to Worthy.
Olly Jefferies and Worthy opened our innings and had to face Renaldo Meyer and Dylan Howard who seemed from a distance to be bowling with some pace. Scoring was a bit slow to start with and when Worthy was caught in the slips in the 7th over we had only 25 on the board. Enter Dom Palmer. Two overs later Olly was bowled by Renaldo by which time the score had increased to 33. Ash now came in and for 4 or 5 overs both he and Dom had a good look at the bowling before deciding to get going. Not that there was any rush as we had plenty of overs in hand. Nor was this “Bazbawl” either. This was the beautiful game, stroking and guiding the ball to all parts of the arena. One shot of Dom’s in particular, a six over deep cover, would have received approval from David Gower no less! Click here for video clip.
Frinton had no answer to this, nor did they seem to have any other bowlers. Apart from 2 overs bowled by Joss Frame at the end, all the overs were bowled by Renaldo Meyer and Dylan Howard. After 19.1 overs we had won our first game for almost 2 months.
It must be stated that Connor goes from strength to strength each week behind the stumps. The only Frinton batsman of any note was Shaariq Sheikh who scored 53 and looked as though he would stay in forever. In the 32nd over Tris got him to edge the ball well wide of Connor, who launched himself to his right and somehow manged to cup the ball and hold on to it. Even Tris looked incredulous that he had held it. It was a shame that the camera was placed such that it all happened off camera. In all he assisted in 3 of their dismissals and for this reason I am awarding Connor, Man-of-the-match award.Mildenhall CC, Suffolk 1st XI Innings
