Match report According to their scorer, this was the worst Clacton team that had played since the dawn of time! Checking on the earlier match at Clacton, there were only 4 changes from the side that scored 210 and knocked us over for 105, so that must have been a slight exaggeration. However, they were a bit sub-standard, more “at sea” rather than on it.
That’s not to take it away from our performance which was top notch. Having won the toss, the skipper decided to bat and we amassed 279 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Ben was first to go in the 13th over, caught by Ahmed off Kieron Parkes, for 55 off 48! Good start! Matt was next to go 3 overs later and in strode Murtaza to accompany Connor who had already scored 40 off 37. They took the total to 174 when Connor was unexpectedly LBW to I Sheikh for 75 off 81. Another fine performance from the "opener/keeper". There were three other worthy performances, 35 for Murtaza, 40 from Jamie Allen off 39 and 33 from Jack Bowman off 23. After 50 overs we had scored 279 and the consensus of opinion in the scorebox was that it would be too many for the opponents.
And so it proved, by the proverbial mile. We needed just 25 overs to send them packing and the pick of the bowlers was Tom Griffin with 5 for 23 off 9 overs. I don’t know how many ‘fifers’ he has bowled in his cricketing life but this was a good one, three of them clean bowled and two caught in the deep by Jack Bowman. Jack also took 3 wickets for 1 run off 1.5 overs so taking into consideration his batting performance as well, JB is my man of the match.
