MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost by 68

Match report Mildenhall CC 2nds v Clacton -on-Sea at Clacton Saturday 9th August.
Not to put it too bluntly, a pretty poor show all round apart from a couple of cameos, more of which later.
Having lost the toss, the home side opted to bat. Tom Sinclair and Nathan Robinson opened with Tom dominating the strike until the 7th over when JKM bowled Nathan who had scored only 5 of the 34 they had put on. Two overs later, JKM got his second wicket, Jatinder Singh, also bowled. The score was now 40 for 2. JKM got another in his next over, Imran Sheikh, also bowled. We then had to wait until the 20th over, Jacob’s 10th and last, before he got his 4th wicket, that of the Tom Sinclair, caught behind when the score was 78. He had scored 47 of these runs and we were very happy to see him removed. After his final over, JKM’s figures were 10 overs, 1 maiden, 4 for 37. A worthy candidate for MOTM.
Also worth a mention was Pi Coddington-Fernandez, who I had not seen since last year. He appeared to have shortened his run-up considerably which probably contributed to the improvement in control and after 5 overs, had figures of 1 for 19.
Soon after this, Murty came on and got two quick wickets in his 3rd over reducing the home side to 125 for 8 after 35.2 overs.
Unfortunately, thingt then went pear shaped, and they took the score to 187 before we got the 9th wicket and on to 203 all out. However, this did not look like an insurmountable score.
Well, unfortunately, it was and the least said about it, the better. There were two exceptions however. Firstly, our evergreen man from OZ who constantly shows the way to go. Suffice to say he scored 69 without offering a chance until his surprised stumping towards the end of the match. The other cameo was JKM again, this time showing his batting skills, scoring 27 (the only batsman apart from Worthy to reach double figures) from 20 balls.
I don’t think there should be a MOTM when we lose a match like this but I think JKM did enough with bat and ball to deserve the award.
Next week, Wivenhoe, who are behind us in the table, at home. Are we going to let them turn us over as well!!
