Match report As expected, Halstead turned up without a scorer but I shan’t go on and on about it as I promised not to mention it any more several weeks ago. Talking to the umpires in the clubhouse before the game started, apparently some clubs pay exorbitant amounts of money for a scorer so Halstead don’t bother and pay the fine of £20 instead. Anyway I said I wouldn’t go on about this any more so let’s drop it. Besides, I am happy to score and be a part of the game even though my ageing eyes deceive me by frequently not recognising the correct catcher or runner-outer as I know you lads will put me right eventually. It’s all part of the fun of the game, well for me anyway. And, driving around East Anglia in search of the various places that cricket clubs manage to hide themselves is worth the trouble in itself (apart from Clacton that is).
So, back to the game.
As expected, Halstead turned up without a scorer but I shan’t go on and on about it as I promised not to mention it any more several weeks ago. ( Sorry, got carried away again!). They won the toss and asked us to bat, which we did but, not very well, and, for not very long. They bowled us out in 47 overs after we had scored 118. Top scorer was the skipper with 34 but the best shot of the day by far was Rhys cover drive for 4 in the first over.
After lunch, Halstead batted and scored 119 in under 25 overs for the loss of only 1 wicket and went home.
That’s it really, nothing much to talk about other than the fact that they turned up without a scorer and didn’t even bother to say anything to me until I broached the subject. Sorry!

Finally I would like to thank young Leo Leader for his help. He was probably more useful than their scorer would have been if he/she had bothered to turn up, anyway, so I’m quite pleased that they didn’t have a scorer! So, “Thank you Leo. If you want to go to Coggeshall next Saturday, you will need to be at MCC about 10.”
