MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sun v Bsssc on Sun 22 Aug 2010 at 1.30. p.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 8 wickets

Match report Mildenhall Sunday 2XI entertained the ‘Candy Men’ of BSSC on Sunday. BSSC were struggling for numbers arriving with only 10 men. BSSC won the toss and on a damp MCC pitch decided to bat. BSSC found scoring runs in the early stages as difficult as walking in treacle as Coverdale bowled his best spell of the season. Coverdale known for his love of all things older put in a performance of maturity and great quality. Speaking of older things Steve ‘1986’ Hunt bowled with skill and without luck during 10 economical overs of slow swing bowling. Hunt could barely be hit as the batsmen scored all the runs with edges through the slips. Hunt’s day in the field was only marred by his dropping of a regulation catch at point off Coverdale. Webb came on later in the innings and bowled his usual mix of leg spin and cunning flight. Webb enjoying a return to form with the ball captured 3 wickets. The ‘Fat Hunter’ Elma Fudd also known as James Taylor came on later on in the BSSC innings and with his usual mix of dolly mixtures and unplayable deliveries was able to capture 3 wickets.
Mildenhall’s batting relied on the patience and skill of its youngsters. Joe Nicholl and Jordan Francis put together a partnership of real note for the second time in a row on a Sunday. They saw off the opening bowlers and then began to take a more aggressive attitude against the lesser BSSC bowlers. Francis eventual bowled for a sweet 24. Joe Nicholl was joined by his gnarly father and played some magnificent shots in a fine 48. Joe on 48 played a fine pull shot to the boundary only to discover that he had hit the stumps on his backswing. A sad end to a fine innings. Gnarly Nicholl and Alex Lack managed to see the innings through to its end. Lack’s performance as wicket keeper during the BSSC innings was of real quality and he continues to show promise with the bat.
Overall another fine performance from a side who has struggled for much of 2010. With only 3 games to go there is considerable hope that the Sunday 2XI can escape the clutches of relegation and complete what will be a great escape!
