MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 95 runs

Match report Mildenhall 1st X1 were still on a high from the excitement of winning the Suffolk Cup last Sunday, however they were soon brought back to earth when having been inserted to bat first in their game at home against Haverhill, they had Joe Reed (0) out lbw to R.Singh in the first over. Ben Shepperson joined Alex Reynolds and the pair took the attack back to the visitors. Batting aggressively they had added 50 after 10 overs. Reynolds (29) departed soon after when he was dismissed by a well taken slip catch by S.Powell, again off the bowling of R.Singh. Chris Baugh entered at number 4 but was out with out scoring when he leg glanced a catch to wicket keeper L.Young off Phillips, leaving Mildenhall on 61 for 3. Captain Steve Lankester came in to join Shepperson. Shepperson was continuing to bat fluently and passed 50 with a high straight drive for 4. Lankester meanwhile was content to cement the partnership by holding the other end up. It was Lankester however who raise the 100 for Mildenhall with a massive 6. The pair added the second 50 partnership of the innings before Lankester (11) was out, caught behind by Youngs off Phillips. Andy Squire joined Shepperson and they took Mildenhall passed 150 in the 29th over. Shepperson (90) was finally out when he was out lbw to S.Webb. James Holmes blasted a couple of boundaries before an extravagant attempted pull saw him bowled by Webb for 14. Luke Turner (3) looked out of touch and soon became Mildenhalls 7th wicket to fall when S.Powell bowled him. The score stood at 178 for 7 and Haverhill saw a glimmer of an upset on the cards. Andy Squire was playing having just been on holiday and it clearly had done him good. He stroked the ball around with ease. At the other end Karl Holmes settled in and the pair soon dispelled any fears of an early close to the Mildenhall innings. The 200 came up in the 41st. and then the home pair finished the innings in cavalier style adding 50 in the last 5 overs. Holmes produced one of his best knocks of the season finishing on 41* and Squire also remained not out having made a fine 80. Their 8th wicket partnership had been worth 99 runs. Mildenhall closed on 277 for 7.

Haverhills reply began slowly as Tymal Mills and AJ Warraich bowled tightly from each end. Warraich struck first when Squire hung on to a fizzing slip catch to dismiss Powell for 16.Mills soon joined in when he had Moran (21) edging low and was well caught by wicketkeeper Karl Holmes. Warraich soon struck again when Dellar (3) offered a simple catch to Shepperson. Having finally got passed 50 in the 16th over Haverhill were rocked by the loss of two more wickets as Warraich took his haul to 4. He had Brown (4) caught behind by Karl Holmes and then Ketteridge fell to a catch to Joe Reed with out troubling the scorers. Haverhill had stumbled to 51 for 6. Mildenhall went in search of maximum points and brought on their slow bowlers. Worrying little about runs being scored the home side dangled the carrot and Haverhill batsmen conspired to get themselves out. Shepperson got 3 wickets and Lankester one. Haverhills resistance crumble when Singh (15) could not restrain himself and lofted a shot straight down Mills throat and then L.Youngs (73) who had shown some spirit had the ignominy of being last man out when he attempted a second run and was run out. Haverhill were bowled out for 182 and Mildenhall had those vital 20 points.
