MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 54 runs

Match report Mildehall do a "Catchet" job on Wivenhoe
Mildenhall 1st X1 were invited to bat first by Wivenhoe in their home fixture at the Wamil Walk ground. The visitor’s decision to ask Mildenhall to bat first soon proved productive as once again Mildenhall openers failed to put big runs on the board. Luke Turner was caught in the gully for 5 and both Alex Reynolds (6) and Ben Shepperson (14) were caught behind, the latter down the leg side. This left Mildenhall precariously on 28 for 3. Kobus Scholtz and Adam Trett set about a recovery. Steadily the pair edge the score up pass 50 and then by the 19th over the pair had added 50. With the score on 78, Wivenhoe thought they had Scholtz caught behind only to have the umpire confirm it had come off the arm and not bat or glove. The Mildenhall pair began to bat more freely and posted the 100 in the 25th over. Their 90 run partnership came to an end when a wrong call led to Scholtz being run out for 66. Captain Karl Holmes (0) tried to square pull a ball from J Nicholls and was unceremoniously bowled leaving his side on 125 for 5. Ryan Clark came in and gave good support to Trett who was batting well and making particular good effect of cutting down towards third man. The score climbed to 170 before Clark fell caught at deep mid wicket for 13. James Holmes came to the crease with just over 12 overs to go and soon showed his intent, hitting the ball hard to all corners. Having seen the 200 raised Trett finally departed for a very well made 80. Tom Allen and James Holmes then added a quick-fire 48 off the last 5 overs which also saw Holmes reach a half century. The pair remained unbeaten, Holmes on 54 and Allen on 18. Mildenhalls rollercoaster inning ended on a score of 267 for 7.
Wivenhoe began their reply steadfastly and saw off the Mildenhall opening attack reaching 50 without loss. Mildenhall finally got a break through when Jordan Elliott was caught by Luke Turner of Ben Shepperson for 41. Scholtz then trapped M Condon lbw for 6. Wivenhoe passed 100 without further loss and appeared poised to take control. However the old adage that “Catches win Matches” was shown to spectacular affect. Matt Durrell (38) swept a ball with all his might towards square where Alex Reynolds went horizontal and held a great catch. Seven runs later and Ryan Vickery (1) drove hard to extra cover only to see Ben Shepperson leap high into the air and hang on to a splendid right handed catch. Ryan Savill fought back with some intensity hitting ten boundaries including five sixes before holing out to Luke turner off Scholtz for 68. This saw the pace of the run chase slow and Mildenhall chipped away at Wivenhoe holding on to three more catches in the deep, taken by Tom Allen, Luke Turner and Jack Bowman. Karl Holmes joined in as he hung on to a difficult up and over his head catch to dismiss L Homewood for 4. Finally Scholtz took a low catch to his left hand side to dismiss Tom Durrell for 6 and end Wivenhoe’s innings, all out for 213. For Mildenhall, Kobus Scholtz picked up 6 for 50 and ben Shepperson 3 for 104
