MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost Mildenhall lost by 69 runs

Match report Saturday saw Mildenhall 1st X1 in a top of the table clash against Wivenhoe, and home advantage at Wamil Way. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that looked like a vintage Mildenhall batting track. Their decision was fully vindicated as openers Matt Durrell and Jordan Elliott took on the best of the Mildenhall attack. They both went passed 50 and were in full command as they reached the 25 over half way point with the scoreboard reading 129 for 0. Mildenhall had to wait until the 30th over before they had any success. Elliott (84) after completing a superb innings finally lofted a catch to Peter Worthington off the bowling of Ziaf Kulasi. The opening partnership had been worth 151. Kulasi struck again soon after when he bowled Jonty Rushton for 4. Then without addition to the total Kyle Morrison induced an edge from Durrell (66) and Ryan Clark behind the stumps held onto the catch. Mildenhall however were unable to press home any advantage as Ryan Vickery and Jacob Kelly added a further 56 in 10 overs. Steve Taylor finally had Kelly caught and bowled for 31. Wivenhoe still kept on the attack and this allowed Mildenhall to pick up 4 late wickets and secure some valuable bowling points. Vickery (43) was caught by Worthington off Morrison, James Butcher went for 13, caught Clark bowled Taylor and Morrison picked up his third wicket when Ikram held a catch in the deep off Willie Morgan (3). Louis Homewood was run out on the last ball of the innings. Wivenhoe closed on what appeared a par score of 262 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Joe Reed got Mildenhalls reply off to a flyer. Mildenhall raced to 40 in 4 overs but then Reed played around a ball from Rushton and was bowled for 25. Peter Worthington joined Taylor as rain clouds moved in and caused a couple of interruptions. With the score on 92 for 1 at the end of the 16th over the umpires sent the players back out again with visitor body language suggesting they were not keen to resume. Their mood changed dramatically when Worthington (25) was immediately trapped lbw by Harry Burnett. With light rain still falling and conditions changing for both teams Mildenhalls mind set was affected. Taylor was out trying to force Burnett and was caught by Butcher for 49 and then Shepperson (6) was out to a soft dismissal, when he lofted a catch to Kelly off Durrell. Wivenhoe took full advantage of the conditions as their bowlers took pace off the ball, and left Mildenhall to try and force strokes on a damp outfield. The home teams run rate slowed dramatically. Kulasi (9), Tom Allen (10) and Matt Allen (8) were all out trying to put some potency into things. Ikram (20) was then run out in a mix up in calling. It then became a question of when Wivenhoe would win. In the fading gloom Morrison and Clark secured a forth batting point on 175 .Finally with the away team trying to race through the last overs Morrison (28*) and Clark (13*) were unable to reach maximum batting points, and the innings closed on a score of 193 for 8.Burnett finished with 3 for 34. The win for Wivenhoe saw them go 7 points clear at the top while Mildenhall slipped to second.
