MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 97 runs

Match report Baker gets his first half-century in EAPL
Burwell won the toss and put us in. It became apparent right away that this wicket was not going to be easy to get runs on. After 7 overs we had only 6 runs on the board, even Joe was struggling. In the next over Tristan decided to leave a ball alone which clipped his off stump and two overs later Joe lobbed one to mid-on having scored only 2 off 30 balls. Three overs later HCB gave Sam Rippington the first of his three wickets and things were starting to look grim. Enter Rashy and Baker to put on a match saving partnership of 87 only ended when Rashy was caught behind on 49. As he walked past the scorebox I could see that he was more than a little annoyed with himself. Ben didn’t stay long to help his mate so it was left to Sharma to stay with Matt and get him to lunch when he (Matt) was on 48! After lunch Baker got to 51 before the euphoria overcame him and he was caught by Jamie Seabrook off Jay Ghelani. After that the rest of the team all chipped in enough runs to get us to a respectable, but probably below par 225, off 64 overs. Note for the bowling coach. In the entire innings only 1 extra was scored a leg bye in the 62nd over.
Our opponents had the same trouble as we did scoring only 7 runs off the first 7 overs but then started to accelerate steadily until the 20th over when Summerskill completely missed one from Rashy and was clean bowled. That certainly reduced the tension that was building (in the scorebox anyway if not on the field) such that two more wickets fell in the next two overs, one to Tristan (caught behind) and then one to Sharma, also caught behind. By now Sharma and Hussain had come on to give a spinning masterclass for the next 36 overs and wickets fell at regular intervals. When they had run out of overs Jay Ghelani was clean bowled by Tristan leaving Tom Williams, who had survived for an hour and ten minutes scoring 13, not out. 30 points in the bag.
A warm round of applause for our sub fielder Luke Ellis who ran around like a gazelle and took two excellent catches in the deep.
Batsman of the day was undoubtedly Matt (Baker) Allen but bowler of the day went to Andrew Bramley for the visitors who bowled 16 overs, 4 for 39 (10 runs of which were in his last over) with Ankit Sharma a close second with 5 for 48 off 18.
