Wivenhoe Town CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat on Sat 16 Apr 2022 at 12:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost by 76 runs

Match report After starting both innings strongly, with Wivenhoe at 29-4 and then being 61-0 requiring 229 to win, Mildenhall 2s managed to lose a game they really should have won with a sensible game head on.
Stand in skipper,Dom Palmer, won the toss and asked Wivenhoe to bat.
Jonah Handy and Tom ‘Heskey‘ Heywood bowled well in the first 12 overs and had the opposition well on the back foot. However a counter attack by the lower middle order in particular E Lucking (43), Sullivan (36) Shah (44) and T Durrell (49) upset the Mildenhall attack who failed to hit the right areas often enough, bowling too many boundary balls.
Wivenhoe were dismissed after 48.3 overs having reached the lofty heights of 228. Probably 50 or 60 more than they should have.
Stand out bowlers for Mildenhall were J Handy with 3-23 Tom Heywood with 3-22 And a fine spell from young Mo Ubaid with 1-21.
Conor Cobbold performed well behind the stumps.
In reply, the dependable Palmer and Jon Allen batted sensibly taking the score to 61 without loss. Palmer fell for 21 to a skidding low delivery from the overseas leggie Osborne, who bowled tightly throughout, as did the other Wivenhoe slow bowlers, M Durrell and Savill.
From a strong position Mildenhall proceeded to initiative a collapse losing 5 wickets for 20 runs through some extremely poor shot selection against the slow bowlers and then a very fine spell of 5-15 from young seamer Tickner, on as the 7th bowler, which turned the game for Wivenhoe.
In the end Mildenhall were bowled out in 43.3 overs for 154.
Well played to Jon Allen who scored 50 off 77 balls but after the opening partnership with Palmer, no one was able to either apply themselves against slow bowling and tick the score over or get through the fine spell from Tickner who had all his victims bowled or lbw.
Ed Fletcher was last man out to a ball
that kept low for a promising 24.
Some positives to take from the game on the field and, off the field, thanks to Wivenhoe for another fine tea.
We look forward to next week’s home fixture against Woolpit.
