MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat v Maldon CC 1st XI on Sat 04 Jun 2022 at 12:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 188 runs

Match report The Super 2s fielded a team with a number of changes to the previous week with Griffin, Fletcher, Bowman and Matt Heywood coming in to the side.
Maldon skipper Pugh called incorrectly at the toss and Ryan Clark chose to bat first.

Openers R Clark and John Allen put on a solid 48 for the first wicket before Clark was bowled by Finlay Jones for 21. Allen was then also bowled by a peach from Beames leaving Mildenhall 2s at 70-2 off 14 overs. Worthington and Griffin then came together and formed a great partnership by taking advantage of the gaps in the deep set field, pushing for singles, 2s and 3s whilst punishing the short and over pitched deliveries.
Their stand of 135 came to an end when Worthington was caught in the deep by Pugh off Elliott for 74 off 74 balls.
Griffin, having been joined by Fletcher then pushed on in fine form with some hefty blows to the boundary whilst rotating the strike nicely and putting pressure on the field. The left hand, right hand combo worked well and the running between the wickets was excellent.
Griffin completed a fine first century for Mildenhall in his first season with the club, off just 110 balls including 10 fours.
Fletcher supported him well with 36 runs at a run a ball and their partnership of 88 took Mildenhall 2s total to a healthy 293-3 off their 50 overs.
Young bowlers Beames and Jones performed well, each taking a wicket. Senior player Ian Elliott took the other.

For Maldon’s innings the opening bowling combination of Tom Heywood and Jonah Handy made it very difficult for openers Coker and Walpole to build up any momentum at all. The bowling was sharp and controlled.
They restricted Maldon to 36-2 off 14 overs.
Bowman and Kippax-Maton then took over and kept a tight hold on things allowing the pressure on the chasing side to build and build.
As a result, Maldon couldn’t get going and were all out for 105 at the end of the 34th over. Elliott top scored with 24 before being run out by good work from Handy in the field and Anderson reached 20 including four boundaries.

For Mildenhall, Handy took 2-21 from 8 overs, Bowman 10-3-36-3 and JKM 4-30 off 9.

A strong all round performance from the team which will build confidence ahead of next weeks fixture at Mistley.

Thank you to Maldon. Well done to the youngsters in your team that are a credit to the club, as is your scorer on the day, Reece Bawden, who we wish a speedy recovery to from his serious knee injury.
