Worlington CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat on Sat 27 Jul 2024 at 12.00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Let’s put the result behind us and concentrate on Mildenhall performances that deserve a mention.
First and foremost, Tim Catley’s innings was a perfect example of controlled and aggressive batting. After the early dismissal of Worthy, he and Connor Cobbold settled in and took the score from 17 for 1 to 202 for 2 in 30 overs. Although Tim was the heavier scorer, Connor also deserves credit for his share in the partnership. Tim scored 116 off 88 and Connor, 69 off 98. To be fair to the rest of the team Worlington’s total of 348 was always going to be beyond us; after Tim and Connor were out, we still needed another 140 or so from 15 overs. Tom Allen had a useful knock of 45 off 39 and finished not out, but we were well short at the finish.
The main protagonist for Worlington was Curtis Cherrington, their overseas player, who scored 154 off 92 including 13 sixes and 10 fours! Poor Mo, the hero of last week, suffered badly with 1 for 65 but to put this in context, so did Murty with 1 for 79.
So, let’s put that one to bed and think about next week’s game against Clacton-on-sea and take it out on them.
