Maldon CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat on Sat 14 Jun 2025 at 12.00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 4 wickets

Match report
On a sunny but breezy afternoon, Maldon won the toss and decided to bat. Wickets fell regularly, every three overs or so until the 23rd over when they managed a little respite. They failed to score many runs having only scored 111 by the 31st over when they lost their 8th wicket. The wickets taken so far were an excellent run-out by Jonah Handy, 2 LBWs by Ben Cross and Jonah, 4 catches and 1 bowled by Jonah. Worthy took the last two with catches, one of which belied his age and fitness, off Ben Cross and Tom Griffin and the innings ended with 126 scored.
A meagre total and one which should not be a problem for our batsmen.
However, by the 15th over when we lost our second wicket, that of Worthy caught behind off a top edge, we had only scored 36 compared to the 74 Maldon had scored at the same stage although they had lost 4 wickets. Five overs later we had lost another 3 wickets, CG to a magnificent catch by Chris Harris, Ben Cross who was smartly run out and our skipper who was also caught. We were now 55 for 5 after 22 overs and things were not looking too good.
Jack Bowman and Tom Heywood were now in the arena and took stock. In the next 13 overs they had doubled our score, not with boundaries but constantly running 1s and 2s with the odd boundary thrown in. This totally upset the opposition, and you could sense, almost smell, the growing frustration they were experiencing. In the 17 overs they batted, they took the score from 55 for 5 to 125 before Heskey was bowled in the eventual last over, leaving Tom Griffin to muster 4 runs from the last ball to finish the game.
Man of the match! Who else but Jack and Heskey. Runner-up, Jonah with 3 for 22 off 10 overs.
Good win chaps. Next week Braintree who are languishing at the bottom of the table. Let’s show no mercy!
