MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost by 116 runs

Match report The first game of the season was won by our neighbours by a commanding score.
However we can take some consolation from this result in that 171 of the total of 272 was scored by the visitor's Aussie pro., who clearly found our bowlers to his liking. The rest of the team only managed 75 runs off the bat plus 26 extras
Joe Moss who accompanied Peter Worthington to the crease immediately set about the opposition bowlers in a frenzy. In the first over he blasted Sean Cooper for 11, in the third he hit a further 9 and continued to try and hit every ball for 6 until the 8th over when he was enevitably caught. He had scored 42 runs off 29 balls so had given us a good start. Worthy was our top scorer with 62 from 65 but that was about it and we were eventually all out for 156.
So, not a good start to the season but we can take heart from the fact that we were beaten by just one man who will clearly go on to score many runs in this league.
It was very refreshing that we bowled 17 overs before conceding our first "wide". This was a great improvement on our performances last year and one we should build on. Admitedly, towards the end of their innings when our bowlers were probably feeling somewhat worn down by Colin Dwyer, we conceded 17 wides but this could be excused in the circumstances.
Another encouraging aspect was some of the fielding, in particular one catch by Jack Bowman to dismiss Graham Ford.
