MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

A Christmas message from the President

21 Dec 2015

Firstly may I say how proud I was this year to be inducted into the MildenHALL OF FAME. I was honoured to join an illustrious group of people who have been recognised for their contribution to our club.

When I first became President back in 2002, I would write my Christmas message and seasonal greetings on a card and post it on the pavilion notice board. How times have changed so quickly. As many of you will know I like to embrace change and enjoy the IT innovations and the communication of Social Media. Already the new technology has brought us, (with a lot of help from John Child), instant access to the first X1 scores and, no doubt, soon it will heavily assist youth coaching  and one day we may have to accept a TMO umpire. While all this positive change is good, I would remind you all that we have a responsibility to use all these new innovations only in a positive way and leave no bad impressions on yourselves or our club. May I suggest we carry through the whole year a sentiment that only seems to be around at Christmas  "Peace on earth, goodwill to all men".

This year it has been good to see so many young players pushing hard for 1st X1 places. They will gain enormous experience for forthcoming seasons. In the depth of winter it is hard to think too much about cricket, but rest assured, Lou, Nick and the committee are working hard in building teams so we once again can challenge for that illusive Two Counties Championship.

We are very fortunate to have so many people volunteering to help run our club both on and off the field. So on behalf of Jean and myself may I wish all our Mildenhall Cricket Club members, your families and friends a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
