A rare draw in the sun for the 1XI this past Saturday. Mildenhall batted first with a new look opening partnership. Jon Allen stepped up to open the batting and batted with grit, determination and no shortage of quality. Jon narrowly missing out on a 50 when he was LBW. Jon batting for just over 2 hours and facing 105 balls. Nick Maiolo batting at 3 produced a masterful display with the bat. Facing only 124 balls Nick cruised his way to 131 (including 20 4's and 3 6's). Tom Rash contributed 25, Adam Trett on his return to the first team made a fine from only 43 balls. Matt Allen batting down the order made a quick fire 27 from 24 balls. Mildenhall reached an outstanding 361 from 63 overs. Tom Oxley was the main threat with the ball for Swardeston taking 5-58 from his 17 overs. There were also wickets for Gatting, Flatt and Lambert.
Swardeston made a valiant attempt to chase down the target. They got off to a great start through Jordan Taylor (43) and Stephen Gray who narrowly missed out on a century. Joe Gatting made a destructive 53 from 48 balls (including 3 6's). Freddie Ruffell was another batsman who attacked the bowling. Ruffell made 59 from 37 balls including 4 6's. It was thanks to the rear guard actions of Thomas Oxley (6 not out from 13 balls) that Swardeston were able to secure a draw. Swardeston finishing on 309 for 9 wickets from 57 overs. Nick Maiolo with 4-86 and 'Magic' Matt Allen with 3-39. A very good game of cricket against one of the strongest club sides in the country. A return to form for the 1XI.
And a return to winning ways for the 2XI against Little Barfield. LB batted first and reached 180 for 8 from their 45 overs. Hymas was the main contributor with 83. There were also runs from Kemp (22) and Slemmings with 46. Kyle Morrison took 5-44 and there were 2 wickets for Ben Shepperson. The 2XI got off to a great start through Clark (27) and Morrison (61) but top scorer was skipper Steve Graham with 83 not out. Mildenhall reaching their target from only 19.4 overs. A crushing win for the 2XI.
Mildenhall 3XI were able to do the double over Coggeshall. Batting first Mildenhall scored 200 for 9 from their 40 overs. Opener Mark Thurston showing some excellent form with 47 before he goes on his stag do next weekend. Mark's brother Richard made 20. There was a fine batting effort from the Kraken Andy Zajac with 42. 3 wickets for Carruthers, 2 for McCabe and 2 for Goding. Coggeshall didn't really get too close with the bat. Chaplin with 29, Green with 32 and Wishart with 27. Coggeshall finished 168 all out from 38 overs. 2 wickets for Martin Taylor, 4-47 for Tom Heywood and 3-10 for Kiefer Renouf. A comfortable win for the 3XI who are building up some good momentum.
Not such a good day for the 4XI who took on a strong Tendering side. The top scorers were Taylor and Josh Jones with 28. Lou Handy made 24 not out but the side was just not strong enough to make a sizable total. Mildenhall finishing with 120 all out from 33 overs. The total was chased with aggression from the Tendering batsman. Jenno with 29, Starling with 45 and Robinson 24 not out. All the bowlers suffered but there were wickets at least for Josh Jones 1-21 and Lou Handy 2-19. There were a couple of excellent catches from regular 3XI skipper Andy Youngs.
Plenty of support needed for next weekend as several players will be absent (for a very good reason).
As in victory...
