The Christmas season is upon us
once again and playing and watching cricket seems a long way off.
However, it’s
a good time to reflect on the past cricket season. The club provided cricket
for a wide
variety of players and I was once again amazed at the enthusiasm
shown in filling all the teams.
Every call to arms was answered and I
congratulate all the fringe players who came in at the last
minute to play.
With cricket coming under pressure from so many other leisure activities it is a
bold move
for the club to introduce a fifth team next year and try and satisfy
so many people who want to play
cricket at Mildenhall. I am sure it will
succeed.
Enthusiasm for our club from
members was evident on many fronts during the year. Social events
were all well
supported and culminated in a wonderful cricket week in August. It was good to
see the
club raising money for causes close to the cricketers’ well-being.
The club is blessed with a hard
working committee who are focused on providing cricket for all ages,
while continuing
to provide better and better facilities. The club also has a small army of volunteers
working freely and enjoying being part of a community that is the envy of many
visiting cricket clubs.
This past season saw success for
the Ladies in winning the Two Counties Ladies League and next
season there are
plans to run two teams.
For my part I was proud to head
up and finish the That’s Over “heritage project. I hope all the records
and memorabilia
the team collated will provide interest and entertainment for many years to
come.
There is always a sense of family
associated with Mildenhall Cricket Club, so on behalf of Jean and
myself may we
wish everyone who is part of that family a very happy Christmas and a peaceful
new year
