MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

Easter message from the President

09 Apr 2020

In normal times, with expectations high, we would all be looking forward to a new cricket season.  Our new Fifth team was all set to go and Easter weekend would have seen trial matches with league fixtures commencing the following week for all. I know many of the players had attended pre-season nets and shown their commitment by having to travel to Cambridge for practice.  Unfortunately all this has been to no avail and with the present circumstances we will not be playing cricket for the foreseeable future.

On the positive side a small band of volunteers (working within the safe distancing

guidelines) have been preparing and manicuring the Wamil Walk ground to ensure

standards will still be in place when cricket returns.

I am sure we will all breathe a big sigh of relief when the pandemic restrictions are

lifted. I also think we will all place a different value on the things we have been used

to doing for so many years.

I hope we can return to some old values with regards to sport, where winning is

important but is not the only thing that matters. Enjoying the company of your team

and club members and making the opposition feel valued. “ As in victory so in defeat”

I am personally look forward to cricket in full swing again and the Cricket Club

brimming with people enjoying all the fayre on offer, both on and off the field.

In the meantime please stay safe and don’t take risks.

On behalf of Jean and myselfthanks to all those of you who have, at great cost,

gone into lockdown so that the NHS can remain strong and also help people of our

age group keep safe. May wewish you, your families and friends a Happy and

Peaceful Easter and hopefully wewill see you all again soon at what will be an

emotional reunion.
