MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

Michael Finnis

10 Aug 2020

It is with great sadness that today I have learnt of the passing of Michael Finnis. Last year Michael was inducted into the MildenHALL OF FAME and his contribution to the club is there for all to read. On that induction evening he regaled us with stories of the club from over 50 years ago. He also spoke of his time as Sports Editor of the Cambridge News and about some of the colourful sportsmen he met during his time in that job. I played alongside “Micky” when I joined Mildenhall and was proud to read his citation at that MildenHALL OF FAME dinner.

He also has his own “MCC Milestone” on our heritage display. In 1967 he took 143 wickets in a single season. That record has stood for over fifty years and I guess his name will live on for many years to come.

With his passing I am sure you will join with me in sending our condolences to his wife Vera and to the extended Finnis family, many of whom have given much to our club.

Tony Cornell
